September 2013 - Welcome!

A very warm (albeit late!) welcome to all the new pupils and welcome back to existing pupils. I hope everyone has now settled into their new classrooms and the children are enjoying the first half term of the year.

As many of you will be aware we had some devastating news over the holidays, when we heard of Caroline Davies' sudden death. Caroline had taught in the school for 22 years and was a well respected and much loved teacher - she will be sorely missed by all the staff and her past pupils. We send all our very best wishes and thoughts to her husband and children.

The next full governors meeting will be held next week when the annual process to appoint the Chair, Vice Chair and relevant committees will be undertaken.

I wish everyone all the very best for the year.

Christmas 2012

Visiting the school at Christmas time is always one of my favorite activities and the watching the various Christmas plays means to me that Christmas has well and truly arrived! The excitement on the children's faces and the sheer enjoyment they have at participating in the concerts is lovely to see...especially when all my "little children" have grown into grunty teenagers! Unfortunately I had to miss all the concerts this year (due to family illness) but I have had glowing reports from a number of people about how brilliant they were....well done to the children, and of course all the staff who work so hard to make this possible.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you all the very best for 2013 and the new term that begins tomorrow.

September 2012 - Welcome

A very warm welcome to all new (and existing) parents. On behalf of all the Governors I would like to welcome you to Pontyclun Primary School and hope that your child's stay here will be a happy and enriching one.

The Board of Governors is made up of a approximately 20 individuals (parents, local authority representatives, staff and community members) who all work together with the Head and staff to oversee the running of the school. Full governing body meetings are held, as a minimum, once a term with a number of sub committees (such as finance) meeting in between the main meetings.

The Chair and Vice Chair of Governors are elected every year by the body of governors every Autumn term. I am currently Chair of governors, a role I have held for 4 years, with Judy Hughes the Vice Chair. A number of parent governor positions are due for election this year - so please can I take this opportunity to encourage you to return your nomination forms as the individuals you vote for will represent parents' view on the governing body.

The next full governor's meeting is to be held at the end of October where the new parent governors will become part of the governing body

New School Year! September 2011

Another year starts....!

A very warm welcome to all new pupils and parents who have just started in the school. All members of the governing body hope your children all have a happy and enriching time during their school years in Pontyclun Primary school. The time flies and before you know it you'll be watching them leaving Year 6!

As a governing body we are very proud of our school and staff who work hard to make each and every child's school experience one to remember. This is now my 14th year as a governor at the school and each year I am amazed at the variety of activities the children become involved with and the talents and skills they share with us each term. I shall be looking forward to meeting both children and parents throughout the year.

18th May 2011

Popped into school to catch up with Mr Roberts and the staff. Saw the excellent pets corner which the infants have developed (with the sterling help of Mike the Caretaker and Mrs Watkin - Carter)...what a wonderful opportunity for the children to get to spend time with animals and learn how to look after them.
Many thanks to Pets at Home who have supported this initiative and to the parents who have kindly provided straw, food etc!

31 March 2011

The after school club have manage to find a new home; back in Bethel Church. This means that the children who currently use this facility can continue to do so.

28th March 2011

Meeting with a number of parents tonight to discuss the fact that unfortunately the school is no longer able to host the after school club. This is obviously a very important addition to the school and one which many of the parents use. Unfortunately due to refurbishment of the old canteen which the after school club currently use, and the lack of space elsewhere the school is no longer able to provide the space for the club.
Hopefully a satisfactory solution will be found quickly which will enable the club to still run within the village and provide parents with a valuable resource.
